FORT SUVARNADURG / Tourist Places In Dapoli

Hello Guys, Suvarnadurg is a fort located on a small island in the Arabian Sea, near Harnai in Konkan, along the West Coast of India, in the Indian state of Maharashtra 1. The fort was built by the Adilshah Navy for defense purposes and had a shipbuilding facility. It was later fortified by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of the Maratha Empire, and other Peshwas and Angres for defense purposes 12. The literal meaning of Suvarnadurg in the Marathi language is “Golden Fort” as it was considered as the pride or the “feather in the golden cap of Marathas” 1.
