The New York Attorney General's Office has released camera footage of the deputy-involved shooting which left two teens dead last week in Syracuse.

17-year-old Dhal Apet and 15-year-old Lueth Mo were killed on Sep 6, by Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy John Rosello after Rosello responded to a 911 call about a suspicious scene on Danzig Street in DeWitt. The caller reported there were multiple males wearing dark clothing near Midler Meadows trailer park moving items from a sedan into a van. Upon arrival, the deputy noted that one of the vehicles, a white Hyundai sedan, matched the description of a vehicle stolen the night prior in Syracuse.

As Rosello approached the scene on Danzig Street, the deputy reported that one of the two vehicles allegedly tried to run him over, prompting him to fire three shots into the vehicle. Rosello had a body camera on his person, but he didn't have it turned on. The Sheriff's Office says they have relied on surveillance video from neighbors who recorded the incident.

In reference to the body camera not being on, Onondaga County Sheriff Toby Shelley said, "You need to remember that the deputy responding was at the burglary on Molloy road, so he knew he was going after the most likely suspects from that burglary, and he knew there were 6 suspects. He most likely did not have a time to put that body camera on. You’d have to put yourself in his shoes and watch that video before, whether or not you question he had his body camera on."

After the shooting, the vehicle made it nearly two miles to Mooney Avenue in Syracuse, where Mo and Apet were found. There was also a third person in the vehicle who remains unaccounted for, along with the other vehicle and three other suspects. According to a source close to the investigation, neither Mo nor Apet were driving. The third suspect, who has not been found, was driving the vehicle.
