On November 11, 2019, between approximately 1200 and 1808 UTC (7:00 am - 1:38 pm ET), NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured a fascinating celestial event as it observed the planet Mercury passing in front of the Sun. The Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) is a spacecraft designed to monitor the Sun in various wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light.

During this event, Mercury appeared to traverse the surface of the Sun, a phenomenon known as a solar transit. The SDO's specialized instruments enabled it to capture this event in high detail, offering valuable insights into the behavior of both the planet and the Sun.

The video footage, set to the music track "Frosted Lace" by Matthew Charles Gilbert Davidson, was released as public domain material by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. This means that it can be freely used and shared by the public without any copyright restrictions.

The video serves as a captivating visualization of Mercury's journey across the Sun's surface and is just one of many such visualizations available for download from the Scientific Visualization Studio (SVS) at http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/13425. These visualizations provide educational and scientific insights into various astronomical events and phenomena.
