A group of activists broke into House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) office to protest. They were demanding the reauthorization of the country's health program aimed toward combating the spread of HIV. U.S. Capitol Police later responded to the scene and arrested seven protesters for unlawful entry "after the demonstrators refused to cease demonstrating,"

A New Mexico sheriff is refusing to enforce an "unconstitutional" gun ban and is calling a special legislative session to oppose the governor's 30-day executive order blocking open and concealed carrying of firearms. Democratic Gov. Michelle Grisham ordered to impose penalties on anyone lawfully carrying a firearm in Albuquerque, in response to what she called an epidemic of gun violence. In response people gathered in Albuquerque to openly defy the Governor's order.

A California task force made a recommendation to pay cash reparations to descendants of slaves earlier this year, but a majority of voters in the state oppose the council’s request. A recent study found that 59% of voters oppose cash payments to some black residents. Experts have said black residents could receive millions in reparations.
