A powerful storm accompanied by floods in eastern Libya has resulted in the tragic loss of life, with reports suggesting that at least 150 individuals have lost their lives in the city of Derna, according to the Red Crescent in Benghazi. Kais Fhakeri, the head of the organization in the city, conveyed to Al Jazeera on Monday that the grim death toll might potentially climb to 250, given that water levels within the city surged to as high as 3 meters (approximately 10 feet). Additionally, dozens of individuals are currently unaccounted for, as confirmed by local authorities. Othman Abduljaleel, the health minister of a self-proclaimed government located in eastern Libya, has reported that at least 50 more people remain missing in the aftermath of the storm, which struck the region on both Sunday and Monday.
