Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, began erupting on Sunday after months of dormancy. Video captured at the site shows the volcano spouting lava fountains around 500 feet (152.4 meters) into the air from Halemaʻumaʻu, its summit crater, in a spectacular natural light show.

Hawaii’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) have stated on social media that the lava activity at Kilauea is limited to the summit and does not pose a direct threat to nearby communities, but added that the eruptions can release volcanic particles and gases that could potentially lead to respiratory issues for those exposed.
