It's really interesting to hear how skeptical the Nigerian people were of the UN and how they thought the polio vaccine programs were apart of a UN/US agenda to sterilize them. Perhaps they were right...
The same year this piece aired on Al Jazeera, the UN had a massive vaccination program for polio begin in Nigeria after mounting public pressure. Before this, Nigerian fertility rates were even for about a decade, from 1998 to 2008 at 6.1 avg. As soon as vaccination started, fertility rates tanked from 6.078 in 2008, to now 5.237 as of 2021, the lowest it's ever been.
