"Investigate" means "to examine a crime, problem, statement, etc. carefully, especially to discover the truth."
Example #1: Police are still investigating how the accident happened.
Example #2: The aim of the study is to investigate how climate change is affecting animal behavior.
Example #3: I wonder what that noise was in the kitchen - I'd better go and investigate.
