Working a dog through fear and stress

When it comes to fear, anxiety, even aggression, there is ONE KEY thing most people are not doing…

And that’s teaching dogs how to work THROUGH it.

And we understand why. It sounds a lot nicer to avoid everything your dog struggles with.

But that’s not how they overcome their issues.

Cora, the dog in the video, is an aggressive dog with a lot of bites on her record. In fact, she’s on her last chance with us.

Her owners say she chases people down and attacks them, and that’s only part of the problem.

Cora is also a flight risk who [had] a hard time with impulse control before training. (This video is a couple weeks old)

We found all the cracks in her training like her jumpiness around random objects and sounds.

The more we held her accountable for her obedience, the more we worked her around her triggers, the more we showed her what was NOT acceptable (and also what we do want!) the more we saw her eventually relax through the process.

A dog that cant hold a command around a small distraction is a dog that will certainly break command and resort to old pattered behaviors (like biting) if put under enough stress.

Cora is learning new coping skills and all we are seeing is her get better and better.

Impulse control is KEY when rehabbing ANY behavioral issue. And it starts with the small stuff like you see here
