The Sun is a star located at the center of our solar system. It's a massive, hot, glowing ball of gas primarily composed of hydrogen (about 74%) and helium (about 24%) with trace amounts of other elements. Its core is incredibly hot, reaching temperatures of about 15 million degrees Celsius (27 million degrees Fahrenheit), where nuclear fusion reactions occur, producing energy in the form of light and heat.

The Sun plays a crucial role in our solar system, providing the energy and heat necessary for life on Earth. It's approximately 4.6 billion years old and is expected to continue its main sequence phase for several billion more years before eventually evolving into a red giant and then a white dwarf. Its immense gravitational pull keeps the planets in our solar system, including Earth, in orbit around it.
