How do names for planets come about? The planets in our solar system, with the exception of Earth, all have names derived from Greek or Roman deities. The International Astronomical Union (IAU), the accepted global authority for naming celestial bodies and their surface features, is responsible for giving everything in space names today. Dr. Henry Throop, a NASA scientist, tells more.
