A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.1 shook the Indonesian island of Bali on Tuesday.
The epicenter was in the sea at a depth of 515 kilometers off the northeast coast of Bali.
Tremors were also felt on the nearby islands of Lombok and Sumbawa.
Indonesian authorities ruled out the threat of a tsunami.
The earthquake hit at 3:55 am local time, when most people were still sleeping.
A few minutes later, aftershocks of magnitude 5.4 and 5.6 followed.
Residents of Bali said that the second tremor was longer and stronger.
Many people ran out of their homes and hotels to find higher ground.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
"The earthquake is deep, so it should not be destructive," the emergency management agency said. #earthquake #cclimate #climatechange
