Episode 15 (16 Dec. 2005) : Richard Carstone finally tires of the exhausting court case,which undermines his health as well as his finances. Ultimately, a most recent Jarndyce last will is found at Smallweed's by detective Bucket, which decides the Chancery case in Richard's favor, with a bitter aftertaste: expenses have eaten up the entire estate. John Jarndyce welcomes Rick home, but it's only to die. Guppy's renewed proposal to Esther, now he has his own legal practice, is equally politely rejected. Even DR. Allan Woodcourt's declaration of love, now he can get a lucrative position in the north, is tearfully turned down as Esther feels obliged to honor her promise to wed her guardian, but he relieves her of that.

Bleak House is a fifteen-part drama serial adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel of the same name, which was originally published in 1852–53 as itself a print serialisation over 20 months. Produced with an all-star cast, the serial was shown from 27 October to 16 December 2005, and drew much critical and popular praise. It has been reported that the total cost of the production was in the region of £8 million.

Bleak House is a novel by Charles Dickens that tells the story of the Jarndyce family, who wait in vain to inherit money from a disputed fortune in the settlement of the extremely long-running lawsuit of Jarndyce and Jarndyce. The novel is critical of England's Court of Chancery, where cases could drag on through decades of convoluted legal maneuvering. The novel covers many plots, including the first-person account of the life of Esther Summerson and an ongoing court case concerning a large inheritance thrown into chaos by the existence of contradictory wills.

The mini series stars, Denis Lawson, Anna Maxwell Martin, Patrick Kennedy, Carey Mulligan, Gillian Anderson, Charles Dance, Alun Armstrong, Timothy West, Burn Gorman, and Harry Eden. This adaptions was written by Andrew Davies, the serial was produced by Nigel Stafford-Clark and directed by Justin Chadwick and Susanna White.
