Sugar gliders got their name because of their fondness for consuming nectar and flowers, although they also include insects in their diet. Their scientific classification, Petaurus breviceps, translates to "short-headed rope dancer." Surprisingly, the sugar glider was introduced to Tasmania in 1835 and is the sole glider species found in the state. This marsupial is commonly sought after in the pet trade, particularly in the United States of America.
