Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.

Today’s quick tip is around three things you need to know about COVID ARDS in intensive care. So let’s dive right into it. And if you like this video, give it a thumbs up. Subscribe to my YouTube channel and comment below what questions and insights that you have from this video.

Now tip number one, COVID ARDS treatment options are remdesivir, often Flolan nebulizers also known as epoprostenol, also steroids and number three sometimes it can be nitric oxide as well. So ask for all of those treatment options. And sometimes depending whether there’s pulmonary hypertension, there could also be sildenafil or Viagra in the mix.

Number two for COVID ARDS in ICU is prone position should be the next step. If the other treatment options that I’ve just mentioned don’t work.

And number three, if proning doesn’t work, ECMO is the next option, and you should be looking for ECMO and you should be asking for ECMO as quickly as possible.

And because you stayed until the end, I’ll give you a bonus tip. The bonus tip is a tracheostomy should be done as quickly as possible for COVID ARDS. But it often can’t be done because oxygen and PEEP requirements are too high.
