Iceland is set to resume hunting whales, after its government lifted a summer suspension on the practice, sparking fury from opponents.

Only one company in Iceland still hunts whales, and just two other countries – Japan and Norway – allow commercial whaling. But, only Iceland permits the killing of longer fin whales.

Fisheries and Foods Minister Svandis Svavarsdottir said she understood the views of most Icelanders who want an end to whaling, and the lifting of the suspension comes with a series of tight new regulations.
