An American Dipper catches breakfast!

On a recent trip to Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, I saw this American Dipper foraging for aquatic larvae in the fast moving rapids of the Russian River Falls.

The American Dipper is North America's only aquatic songbird. Most of their food is caught underwater, and as you can see in this video, this dipper caught an aquatic larva. It's amazing that this small bird can stand on top of slippery boulders, in fast moving rapids, and not get swept away!
