How to Get Ahead in Your Christian Life

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 KJV
The world will tell you to hurry up, manage every second of time more wisely, don’t stop going, and the like. But, the key to getting ahead in life is not going faster. It’s slowing down. It is easy to read Isaiah 40:31 and focus on the running without wearying and the walking without being faint. But these blessings only come as a result of waiting. Specifically waiting on the Lord Almighty. The hebrew word for “wait” here conveys the idea of not only waiting but also binding together (Strongs Concordance 6960). In my mind this word always creates an image of a wee old grandmother quietly rocking in her chair as she sews a warm quilt or knits a warm hat for her grandchildren. Whether or not that is what the original hebrew word was used for I don’t know. A more learned person than me could tell you. The point is that waiting doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means doing what you are able to do and letting God do the rest. Those who wait on the Lord run without wearying because God does the running. And those who walk without being faint are carried by the Lord.
So, reprioritize what is most important. Jesus, our Lord and Savior, is the only reason we have life at all (Colossians 1:16). So He should be at the top of our priorities. Wait for Him to move and clear the way before you (Exodus 20:20-22). All the while you prayerfully bind a closer relationship with Him and the Father, and with the Holy Spirit. Knit together a deeper and richer prayer life by cutting out unnecessary hustle and bustle. Try cutting out the secular tv show, which yields no spiritual fruit. Replace it with a devotional or a Christian tv show. Or, unsubscribe from a secular Youtube channel and replace it with a God honoring one. But, just cutting out activities that yield no spiritual fruit would be a great start. The key to getting ahead in life: slow down.
