Carole Barrowman's Favorite Mystery Novels of the Year
There's nothing like a good mystery novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat. They're so hard to put down, because you NEED to know what happens next! Our book reviewer, Carole Barrowman, joins us with some of her favorite mysteries of the year that are "to die for"! For more information on Carole and her own books, visit BarrowmanBooks.com. And check out her reviews below: 1. “Journey to Munich” by Jacqueline Winspear - The intrepid Maisie Dobbs finds herself in the dark heart of Nazi Germany on an undercover mission for the British Secret Service. She rocks. If you haven’t discovered this series yet, make it your binge reading right now! 2. “Burning Bright” by Nick Petrie - Local author Nick Petrie’s thrilling “Burning Bright” transported me to the woods of Northern California and the wilds of Washington State and I loved every page of this adrenaline-fueled journey. In fact, a beginning chase scene in the redwoods is not only breathtaking, it’s also one of the most original action scenes I’ve read (imagine Fast and Furious sampling Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). 3. “Everything You Want Me To Be” by Mindy Mejia - Seventeen year-old, Hattie Hoffman has taken Shakespeare literally. Her entire world’s a stage. She’s “spent her entire life playing parts.” In her senior high school production of Macbeth, she’s playing Lady Macbeth, but forever she’s been role playing with everyone: her parents (the good daughter), her young married English teacher (the good student), her friends (the popular girl), and even the sheriff (the good teenager). But which part got her murdered. 4. “I See You” by Clare Mackintosh - “I think I’m going to be murdered,” says Zoe Walker, a divorced middle-aged woman with two grown children,” a heavy mortgage, “and a spare tire.” She has a doting lover, a solid ex-husband, and a bullying boss. But someone has put Zoe’s picture on an online dating website that’s a front for murderers and misogynists, and nobody is listening to her pleas. Is she simply paranoid or is someone really stalking women via this site?
