Have you ever dumped beer into your houseplants? In fact, it's not that far-fetched. That's because beer makes a perfect fertilizer for houseplants. I'll explain why that is and what you absolutely have to consider when watering your plants with beer in this video!

In beer we find ingredients such as potassium, phosphorus and magnesium. These are also typical ingredients of plant fertilizers. For this reason, you can actually water your houseplants with beer. However, it is important that you don't just dump your beer into your houseplants. Because in the first step the carbonic acid must escape, because this is not so good for the plants. The beer should be left open for 1-3 days so that the carbon dioxide can escape.

We also dilute the beer with water in a ratio of 1:2, so if you have 500 ml of beer, mix it with 1000 ml of water. Stir this well once and then you can also water your plants with it. With this mixing ratio we want to make sure that we do not overfertilize our houseplant.

Of course, you don't have to dump your fresh beer into your plants now. One option would be to collect stale beer and then use it for this. Or if you had some friends over, just use the leftover beer the next morning to do something good for your plants instead of just dumping the leftovers down the drain.

By the way, the alcohol in the beer has no effect on your plants because they don't have brains and therefore can't experience intoxication as we know it. So the next time you have leftovers, you can use them as plant fertilizer!
