This visualization provides a comprehensive display of the Moon's phase and libration observed from the Northern Hemisphere, presented at hourly intervals across the entirety of 2022. Each frame within the visualization corresponds to a single hour of this progression. Furthermore, the animation illustrates the Moon's orbital placement, along with its sub-Earth and subsolar points, maintaining accurate proportions. The visualization also conveys the Moon's authentic distance from Earth. Notably, craters situated near the terminator line are clearly labeled, and significant lunar landmarks such as Apollo landing sites and maria, as well as other reflective features illuminated by sunlight, are highlighted. This video credit goes to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, with data visualization skillfully executed by Ernie Wright (USRA) in the capacity of producer and editor.
