TON 618 is a hyperluminous, broad-absorption line, radio-loud quasar situated in the constellation Canes Venatici, approximately 10.4 billion light-years away from our home planet. Its defining characteristic is the supermassive black hole at its core, which until recently held the record as one of the largest known black holes in the universe, with an estimated mass around 66 billion times that of our sun.
The newly identified supermassive black hole, aptly named “Phoenix A”, has an astonishing mass of approximately 100 billion solar masses. 🤯
