Dr Steven Lin podcast

Australia & US, most common form of infertility
in women is PCOS...
-ovaries accumulate cysts
-formerly eggs that are there due to
failure to ovulate
Ovulation requires ENORMOUS SPIKE
IN ESTROGENS
Estrogen pushes ovary so follicle
will bud off to become egg
-all others will degrade
Insulin inhibits ovaries to make estrogens

All estrogens, in men & women, were once
testosterone
-all gonads convert some testosterone
into estrogens
-uses enzyme: aromatase
-as insulin grows more & more,
pushes aromatase down more & more
SO:
1-woman fails to ovulate
[develops polycystic ovaries]
2-has abundance of testosterone
[body hair, baldness, acne...]

Effect in men?
-excess insulin stops blood vessels
making nitric oxide, so
-blood vessels won't dilate
-ED is consequence
