We farm free range birds. We have one trained dog (the large brown one) and a 13 month male maremma in training.
Stella is featured in this video. She’s a superb livestock guardian.
Note how she and the other dogs ignore the birds and the birds ignore the dogs, though the birds will react if the dogs move suddenly towards them until they work out what’s happening.

She won’t let the big brown dog bear her yard.
Much of the time she rests on her dog bed cushion in her green enclosure and watches on. The perfect role for the maremma to bond with the livestock, keep watch but allow the livestock space to live.
She’s 20 months and is trustworthy with chickens and horses but needs to be tested with the geese and guinea fowl more to be totally trustworthy.
She’s an excellent young maremma dog. We’re only owned her for eight months and her progress surpasses expectations given she was found starved and homeless by the pound.
