Apollo 11 was the historic mission that successfully landed the first humans on the Moon on July 20, 1969. The lunar module, named "Eagle," touched down in the Sea of Tranquility. Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin spent about 21 hours on the lunar surface, conducting experiments, taking samples, and planting the American flag. Armstrong's iconic words, "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind," were spoken as he became the first person to set foot on the Moon.
