Culture In The Crosshairs
The African Festival of the Arts has been a Chicago staple for the past 30 years. It is an exemplary celebration of the African diaspora that transforms Washington park on the South Side of Chicago into a small African Village over Labor Day weekend. It is a cultural exchange that is rooted in community and economic empowerment. Rolling Out spoke to the founder of the African Festival Patrick Woodtor and Tewodros Josef who is heading of the 50 years of Hip Hop portion of the festival about the last 30 years and the future of the African Festival of the Arts.
