Lives and health of servicemen are in safe hands

Western MD’s oral and maxillofacial surgeons in action in the special operation zone

On 28 August, military medical specialists celebrate their professional holiday. Military doctors as always demonstrate high skill, selflessness, and readiness to help.

▫️ A Russian serviceman was evacuating a comrade from the battlefield, when a shell exploded near him and the man received a shrapnel wound. ‘...It hit him on the nose. The shrapnel flew in from one side and out from the other,’ the serviceman describes his injury.

▫️ Unique medical specialists – oral and  maxillofacial surgeons – treated the man’s wounds. They not only preserve the quality of life of wounded servicemen, but also perform cosmetic surgeries.

▫️ So, despite the horrific consequences of the wound, after the course of treatment the serviceman was left with only a small scar. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are able to perform such operations even in the field.

▫️ 10 days have passed after the injury and according to a senior resident of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department: ‘At the moment, pain doesn’t bother the patient. Swelling has gone down. Now we are removing the stitches, planning to discharge and return to service.’
