Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme Launched in August 2008. PMEGP was formed by merging the two schemes that were in operation till 31st March 2008, namely Prime Minister's Rojgar Yojana (PMRY) and Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP).
The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a credit-linked subsidy scheme launched by the Government of India to facilitate the generation of employment opportunities for unemployed youth across the country by assisting in setting up micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector. The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) at the national level, with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as the nodal agency. The scheme provides financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries in the form of a subsidy amounting to 15% to 35% of the project cost.

Eligibility Criteria :
The eligibility criteria for PMEGP are as follows:
• Individuals above 18 years of age.
• VIII Std. pass required for the project above Rs.10.00Lac in manufacturing and above Rs.5.00Lac for the service sector.
• Self-help groups and charitable trusts.
• Institutions registered under Societies Registration Act-1860.
• Production-based co-operative societies.

Documents Required :-
The documents required for PMEGP may vary depending on the nature of the project. However, some common documents that may be required include:
• Project report
• Identity proof
• Address proof
• Educational qualification certificate
• Caste certificate (if applicable)
• Bank account details

Application Process
The entire process of application to sanction and release of funds by banks is online through the portal https://www.kviconline.gov.in/pmegpeportal/pmegphome/index.jsp
The application process involves the following steps:
The applicant submits the project proposal online through the PMEGP portal.
The application is scrutinized by the KVIC or the State office of KVIC, State KVIBs, and DICs.
The application is forwarded to the banks for sanction and disbursement of the loan.

About 80% of the units assisted are in rural areas, and about 50% of the units are owned by SC, ST, and women categories.
