With the heating thermostat you turn on your heating, everyone knows that. But do you actually know what you're really doing by turning up the heating thermostat? Most people think that the higher they turn it up, the faster the heating gets warm, but this is not so.

Because even though there are usually only numbers from 1-5 on the thermostat, you use it to set your desired temperature and NOT how fast you want the heater to heat up. That is, whether you set the heater to 2 or 5, it will heat up equally fast.

You only set when the heating should stop heating up. These temperatures stand for the numbers:

1 = 12 degrees celsius
2 = 16 degrees celsius
3 = 20 degrees celsius
4 = 24 degrees celsius
5 = 28 degrees celsius

So when you set your radiator to 5, you are telling it to heat up until 28 degrees is reached in the apartment. However, this is certainly not the temperature you would like to have in your apartment.

The dashes between the numbers always stand for 1 degree. This means that if you set the thermostat to 3 and then two more lines, you will set a temperature of 22 degrees.

Pay attention to this in the future, because you can save a lot of money on your energy costs!
