Launch Date:
Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) was launched on May 9, 2015, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kolkata.

Ministry:
The scheme is under the Ministry of Finance.

Objectives:
The objective of the scheme is to provide affordable insurance coverage to the poor and underprivileged people in the age group of 18 to 70 years with a bank account.

Features:
The scheme offers coverage for accidental death, total and partial disability, and permanent disability.
The risk coverage under the scheme is Rs. 2 lakh for accidental death and full disability and Rs. 1 lakh for partial disability.
The annual premium for the scheme is Rs. 12, which is automatically debited from the account.
The scheme is offered on an annual renewal basis.
Aadhar would be the primary KYC for the bank account.

Benefits:
The scheme provides affordable insurance coverage to the poor and underprivileged people in India.
The scheme offers financial assistance to the family members of the insured in case of accidental death or disability.

Claims:
In case of accidental death or disability, the nominee or the insured can claim the insurance amount by submitting the claim form along with the necessary documents to the bank.

Coverage:
The scheme covers accidental death, total and partial disability, and permanent disability.
The risk coverage under the scheme is Rs. 2 lakh for accidental death and full disability and Rs. 1 lakh for partial disability.

Eligibility:
The scheme is available to people in the age group of 18 to 70 years with a bank account who give their consent to join/enable auto-debit on or before May 31 for the coverage period of June 1 to May 31 on an annual renewal basis.

Documents Required:
Aadhar card would be the primary KYC for the bank account.
