You might have heard me talking about the low inventory of homes for sale but let me actually show you just how low it is. I think you’ll be surprised.

Look at this graph from Realtor-dot-com—it shows new and active listing counts are very low. New listings are homes that were just put on the market, and active listings are all homes available on the market.

Compared to the last few normal years, you can see the difference is significant for both of those metrics.

What that means is buyers only have about half as many choices as they would in a normal housing market.

So, how does this affect you? Well, a lack of houses for sale benefits you as a seller. That’s because, with such a limited number of homes available, your house should easily catch buyers’ attention because there just aren’t enough homes to go around.
