Need for Speed: Carbon (PS3) - Saturday Morning Drive (read description)
Skip to 1:01:45 for Need for Speed: Carbon.
Stream started with Split/Second which had problems. So games were swapped out for today's drive.
Additional details on those issues and updates regarding the Saturday Morning Drive segment are detailed below and in the comments.
Racing wheel: Fanatec GT DD Pro Bundle
Seat: PlaySeat Trophy
Adapter: Ras1ution 2
System: PS3
Capture: Elgato HD60 S+
Details:
Issues experienced in today's drive:
I started with Split/Second, but kept running into issues with the controls and force feedback locking up. While trying to trouble shoot it, I reset the game and the resolution change upset the capture card. A simple reset wasn't enough, sound was lost. I had to power cycle the capture card and reset everything to get back up with sound. Then I switched to Need for Speed: Carbon (PS3). The game started for controller use, had to reset to get the steering wheel going. The force feedback from this game is extremely strong and can be hard to steer (and is a good workout). Took some trial and error to start getting results.
Skip to 1:01:45 for Carbon gameplay (w/ wheel working)
Conclusions from today's drive:
1. Split/Second is being dropped from the list of games for Saturday Morning Drive. It has some issues with its instructions sent to the steering wheel causing force feedback to lock out in one direction. It is also not very fun to play. The drifting mechanic is inconsistent and dampens the appeal. The game may look neat, but actually playing is a different story.
2. Need for Speed: Carbon for PS3 overall performed well. It has much better wheel support than the 360 version, but the constant pop up to save is annoying. The PS3 version will remain on the roster for Saturday Morning Drive.
Next time:
1. Before Carbon comes up again for Saturday Morning Drive, I'll look into creating a profile on the Fanetec wheel to manage the force feedback for this game to be more playable.
2. Saturday Morning Drive will no longer have expiramental live streams. I'll only put on games that I've had time to test.
Other Notes:
I am seeking to get a new capture card. I'm waiting to get a hold of one of the new ones that supports HDMI 2.1 passthrough. It will allow me to add PS5 and Series X games to my Rumble stream without compromising the video format I play on my TV.
Hopefully, it will also be more stable than Elgato.
