GT20 Canada Season 3 _ Match - 2 Highlights _ Vancouver Knights vs Toronto Nationals
In a reduced game of 15 overs a side due to rain, Rassie van der Dussen and Hamza Tariq skippers of the Vancouver Knights and the Toronto Nationals respectively, stepped out for the coin toss. The Knights won the toss and chose to field first.
The Nationals skipper, Tariq came out to open the innings along with the attacking southpaw, Colin Munro. It didn't take long for Munro to settle in and start playing his natural game. Corbin Bosch struck the first blow for the Knights, getting the Birthday boy Tariq cheaply on a score of 7. Nicholas Kirton then joined Munro in the middle and both the lefties played aggressively. They both stitched up a 76-run partnership in 52 balls before Kirton got his stumps rattled by a spinning delivery from Reeza Hendricks. With just 4 overs left in the innings, it was time for Boom Boom Shahid Afridi to spread his magic. He played a wonderful cameo, hitting some brilliant shots that triggered the feeling of nostalgia in the fans watching the match live. Afridi skied one up high in the air off Newab Singh's bowling, where Ruben Trumpelmann struggled with the wind but safely pouched the important one. This helped the Nationals reach a score of 151/3 in their given quota of 15 overs.
Reeza Hendricks partnered up with the explosive Fakhar Zaman to open the innings for the Knights. In the second over and Farooqi's first, Reeza got out for a duck. Fakhar Zaman was then joined by the youngster from UAE - Vriitya Aravind, who straightaway displayed his innovation and range with some delightful strokes. The Nationals got a sigh of relief when Gerhard Erasmus found a faint knick of Aravind's bat. This marked the arrival of the Knights chief Rassie van der Dussen to the crease, and he announced himself with a cracking pull shot for six. He then led the chase, bringing up his 50 in just 18 balls. A chase that at one point looked comfortable for the Knights, was made difficult with some superb bowling from Fazalhaq Farooqi and Zaman Khan in the end.
The Toronto Nationals won the match by 9 runs, opening their account on the points table.
