Artemis 2 is NASA’s first crewed mission to the moon since the Apollo era. The mission will launch in late 2024 and will take four astronauts on a 10-day journey around the lunar orbit. The crew consists of NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, and the Canadian Space Agency’s Jeremy Hansen. They will be the first people to travel beyond low Earth orbit in more than 50 years, and will test the capabilities of NASA’s new Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System rocket. Wiseman will serve as the commander, Glover as the pilot, and Koch and Hansen as the mission specialists. Glover, Koch and Hansen will also make history as the first person of color, woman and non-American to go beyond low Earth orbit, respectively. The Artemis 2 mission is a critical step toward landing the first woman and the first person of color on the moon by 2025, as part of NASA’s Artemis program.
