Omar ibn al-Khattab served as the second Rashidun Caliph, reigning from August 634 to his tragic assassination in 644. He took over after Abu Bakr, becoming the second caliph of the Rashidun Caliphate on August 23, 634. Omar held a significant position as a respected companion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and was also known as his father-in-law.
