Episode 11 "Brideshead Revisited" (22 Dec. 1981) : In the winter of 1939, Lord Marchmain decides to return to Brideshead from Venice in view of the deteriorating international situation. It soon becomes apparent that he is in declining health and has in fact come home to die. He has taken a dislike to Bridey's new wife and suggests he may leave Brideshead Castle to Julia and Charles. Religion - specifically whether Lord Marchmain will accept the last rites - becomes an issue. Charles simply cannot understand or accept the family's religious beliefs but in his dying moments, Lord Marchmain does provide a sign.

Brideshead Revisited is a 1981 British television serial starring Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews. Most of the serial was directed by Charles Sturridge, with certain sequences directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who handled the initial phases of the production.

The serial is an adaptation of the novel Brideshead Revisited (1945) by Evelyn Waugh. It follows, from the 1920s to the early 1940s, the life and romances of the protagonist Charles Ryder—including his friendship with the Flytes, a family of wealthy English Catholics who live in a palatial mansion called Brideshead Castle. The screenplay was written by Derek Granger (the series' producer) and others. Charles Sturridge declared that 95% of the dialogue was from Waugh's original text.

The series Stars Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews, Diana Quick, Simon Jones, Phoebe Nicholls, Claire Bloom, Laurence Olivier and John Gielgud. The theme music was composed by Geoffrey Burgon.
