Go back in time with Springbok Assistant Coach Heyneke Meyer and relive South Africa’s 1999 Rugby World Cup experience with a man who was actually there. Meyer would go on to become head coach of the Springboks years later but before that he was an assistant to Nick Mallett.
Here Heyneke discusses the Boks’ pre-tournament aspirations and the struggles of taking on obscure opponents like Spain and Uruguay. Meyer also talks about the relationships he enjoyed with the players and fellow coaches, and the influential role he played as Jannie De Beer famously slotted a world record five drop goals against England in the quarter-finals.
