U.S. President Joe Biden visited Hawaii on Monday where he surveyed damage from deadly wildfires that ravaged the resort town of Lahaina in west Maui and met with survivors, and first responders nearly two weeks after wildfires swept through the Hawaiian island and killed more than 114 people with over 800 still missing.

The president pledged federal assistance saying that the "country grieves with you, stands with you, and will do everything possible to help you recover, rebuild, and respect culture and traditions when the rebuilding takes place."

"As soon as I got the governor's request I signed a major disaster declaration that mobilize the whole of government response – that means whatever you need you're going to get," Biden said.
