Through this artist's rendition, we embark on a visual exploration of a unique celestial entity known as Psyche – a metallic world residing within the asteroid belt that offers a fascinating glimpse into the fundamental elements of planetary formation. Set to take flight in 2023, the NASA Psyche mission is set to rendezvous with the asteroid Psyche, positioned between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, in 2026. The spacecraft, aptly named Psyche, will dedicate 21 months to circling the asteroid, meticulously charting its topography and investigating its inherent characteristics.

At the helm of this remarkable venture is Principal Investigator Lindy Elkins-Tanton, affiliated with Arizona State University. Overseeing various critical aspects of the mission, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory shoulders the responsibility for overall management, system engineering, integration and testing, as well as mission operations. Contributing to the mission's technological prowess, Maxar Technologies is furnishing a high-powered solar electric propulsion spacecraft chassis.
