"Coney Island: Luna Park Chutes and Elephants"(HD) Log Ride and Elephant Slide Footage Early 1900s

This is from the the library of congress footage of Luna Park and the Edison company Elephant Slide Motion Picture. I like how there's just a guy next to the boat who goes down the ramp. It's hard to see, and I wonder what he's riding to go down, but he splashes down right before the first clip ends. I like to think he wasn't supposed to do that and did it because he knew they were filming. Isn't HD wonderful? And let me tell you, film was all the rage in 1903.

An hour long journey through Coney Island HD:

At least in this one the elephants are just awkwardly shoved down the water slide and not used to demonstrate the dangers of electricity. Still, those elephants did not look thrilled to be going down the slide. Video has been enhanced to HD and auto stabilized. I don't know why it was shaky to begin with, I assume it was on a platform of some sort and not handheld. It's like the blair witch project. I always just called these a Log Ride, they have them at every medium and above amusement park in the world. Caution, you will get wet.

Recorded 1903, 1904.

Music:
Jesse James by Richard Matteson backed by Kara Pleasants, Zach Matterson on fiddle. Recorded by Bob Hitchcock:
*Looks like he has a semi-functional website and was trying to preserve country and bluegrass music but was hampered by the Sonny Bono copyright extension for Disney act.
