Why Not Dig a Water Well?

Water is THE most important resource in a desert. It's not surprising that one of the most common questions is, "When are you going to dig a water well?"

A well isn't the only water solution, but it's certainly the most reliable in a Texas wasteland... if you don't drill a $15,000 dry hole.

I'd love to have a well, but sharing my experience with my cistern will make it clear why I've stalled on digging the well. It's probable that I'll eventually dig a well, but it's not certain.
