Christians in the Pakistani city of Jaranwala hold prayers in an alley Sunday after a mob attack, August 16, 2023, burnt down their Catholic church.

Allegations that two Christian men reportedly had desecrated pages of the Quran, the Muslims’ holy book, triggered the rampage involving hundreds of Muslims.

At least 19 churches or properties linked to churches were burnt on August 16 in the city and surrounding areas along with dozens of homes belonging to Christians.
