In this artist rendering, we explore a metallic world called Psyche, an asteroid that offers a unique window into the planet's building blocks. NASA's Psyche mission will launch in 2023 and arrive in 2026 at asteroid Psyche, which orbits the Sun between Mars and Jupiter. The spacecraft, also known as Cyca, will spend 21 months orbiting the asteroid, mapping it and studying its properties. The mission is led by Arizona State University Principal Investigator Lindy Elkins-Tanton. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is responsible for overall mission management, systems engineering, integration and test, and mission operations. Maxar Technologies is delivering a high-power solar-electric propulsion spacecraft chassis.
