Stage collapse injures 7 at Germany’s largest theme park

A stage collapse at Germany’s largest theme park left five performers and two guests injured, three seriously enough to require hospital treatment. Acrobats were performing at a pirate-themed show in Europa Park when the pool cracked and tore apart the diving platforms. The force sent the acrobats tumbling into the water, followed closely by the entire stage, which narrowly avoided crushing them. There appeared to be no obvious reason for the collapse.

The accident follows another incident where the park’s log flume caught fire in June (that’s not a joke), which caused the evacuation of 25,000 guests, and prompted serious concerns about safety at the popular tourist attraction.
