Massive Black Hole - Nasa

A huge black hole is a region of space with such a tremendous gravitational force that it can imprison everything around it, even light. These black holes emerge as a result of the implosion of extremely large stars and can be found at the centres of galaxies, including our own Milky Way. The size of these black holes varies tremendously, with some being only a few times the size of our sun and others being billions of times larger. They are encircled by an accretion disc, which is made up of gas and dust that is drawn in by the gravity of the black hole and heated to millions of degrees, releasing strong radiation and jets of particles that shoot out from the black hole's poles.
