Presented in this artist's depiction, we venture into the realm of Psyche, a metallic world known as an asteroid that presents a distinctive opportunity to delve into the fundamental components of planetary genesis. The NASA Psyche mission is scheduled for launch in 2023, with its arrival at the Psyche asteroid—situated in orbit between Mars and Jupiter—anticipated in 2026. Embodied by the spacecraft bearing the same name, the Psyche mission will encompass a 21-month period of circling the asteroid, meticulously charting its features and scrutinizing its attributes. Overseeing the mission is Principal Investigator Lindy Elkins-Tanton from Arizona State University, with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory shouldering the responsibility for comprehensive mission management, system engineering, integration and testing, as well as mission operations. Maxar Technologies contributes a robust solar electric propulsion spacecraft chassis to the mission's technological framework.
