Avatar" is a 2009 science-fiction film directed by James Cameron. The movie is set in the year 2154, where humans have depleted Earth's resources and are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on a distant moon called Pandora. The Na'vi, the humanoid species that inhabit Pandora, are caught in the middle of this conflict and their home is being destroyed.

The main character, Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington), is a paraplegic former Marine who is selected to participate in the Avatar Program, which connects human minds with genetically-engineered Na'vi bodies, allowing the humans to interact with them without causing harm. During his mission, Jake falls in love with a Na'vi woman, Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldana), and begins to understand and appreciate their culture and way of life.

As the conflict between the humans and the Na'vi intensifies, Jake becomes torn between his loyalty to his fellow humans and his love for the Na'vi and their world. "Avatar" was praised for its groundbreaking visual effects, innovative use of motion capture, and immersive story, and it became the highest-grossing film of all time until it was surpassed by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
