Exercise: Rib Cage Expansion Stretch

The Rib Cage Expansion Stretch is a gentle yet effective exercise that focuses on improving the flexibility and mobility of the rib cage, promoting better breathing and posture. This exercise is particularly beneficial for individuals who spend long hours seated or engaged in activities that can cause the rib cage to become stiff.

Instructions:

Starting Position: Begin by finding a comfortable standing or sitting position. Make sure your spine is aligned and your shoulders are relaxed.

Hand Placement: Place your hands on your hips, with your fingers resting on the sides of your rib cage. Your thumbs should point toward your back.

Inhale Slowly: Take a deep breath in through your nose. As you inhale, focus on expanding your rib cage outwards. Imagine your ribs gently opening and expanding like the wings of a bird.

Expand Sideways: As you continue to inhale, encourage your rib cage to expand sideways. Feel the sides of your rib cage pressing against your hands. Keep your shoulders relaxed and your chest lifted.

Exhale Gradually: Slowly exhale through your mouth, allowing your rib cage to naturally contract back to its original position.

Repeat: Perform this inhale and exhale sequence for about 5-10 breaths, focusing on the gentle expansion and contraction of your rib cage with each breath.
