How to Give a Deep Tissue Massage
So I’m going to be showing you how to do some scalp massage techniques on the deeper side. I like to do one nice stroke up the neck before I get to the base of that skull. I’m going to let her scalp rest in my hands here for a minute. My fingers are pressed against the occiput, which is that ridge at the base of the skull. And you can actually just rotate the skull right there in your fingertips so my hand is like this. And then you’re going to want to do nice strong circles all along the scalp. You’ll notice I’m not only using my fingers in the front, but I’m using my thumb in the back to massage her at the same time. This gives you a little bit more pressure and leverage so that you’re not using all of your weight with your hands. I always use a lot of weight from my body to do this. Most people think that they just have to use their hands, but it’s not true. So you’re going to do that to both sides of the scalp. At the same time, work on the scalp. You’re going to be massaging the top of the head. A lot of people have a tendency to skip the crown. So you’re going to want to go all the way back. Make sure you cover the whole area of the scalp. And then when you’re massaging the temple area, a lot of people think that they massage down here lower. Actually, if you move up just a little bit, and look for that ridge, you go nice and slow over that. You don’t want to bounce over it. Just give it nice strong deep pressure. It feels amazing. How does that feel, Gina? Amazing. Yeah. You always want to go a little bit slower. It just feels much better than if you’re going too fast. Now depending on the person that you’re working with, people actually really like hair pulling so I find that a lot of men—you want to check in with your partner first—like to have their hair really strongly pulled. Some women do, as well. But a lot of women really just like to have their hair played with really gently, and you want to sort of pseudo brush it out. But of course, if you hit a tangle, don’t try to pull it out. Just ignore it, go around it, and this can be really amazing. And there are so many nerve endings in the scalp that this is a great relaxation technique, and it’s a great way to end the massage. And so you can complete the whole massage with a nice pull of all that hair, making sure you don’t pull any individual ones. And that is a scalp massage.
