New York City has instructed its employees to uninstall TikTok from their mobile phones issued by the city.

This move aligns the city with the federal government and over half of the U.S. states, all of which have prohibited the usage of the Chinese-owned social media platform on government-issued devices.

Jonah Allon, spokesperson for Mayor Eric Adams, emphasized that while social media plays a crucial role in connecting New Yorkers and fostering a connection with the city, it is imperative to prioritize secure usage of these platforms.

This directive was issued in a statement on Thursday, the Associated Press reported.
